Fast-Tracked
Assessment Pathway

Assessments first, so your paediatrician appointment can focus on answers

We are currently piloting a Fast-Tracked Assessment Pathway for a small number of families on our waitlist.

On this pathway, your child’s assessments are completed before your paediatrician appointment, so that appointment can focus on understanding your child and planning the next steps together.

How the pathway works

1. Initial appointment with Dr Rahman
Dr Rahman will meet you and your child and identify which assessments will be most useful. Meet Dr Rahman

2. Assessments with our team
Our psychology and speech pathology team will complete the assessments your child needs, here at Wild Child Paediatrics.

3. Paediatrician appointment
Your child’s assessment results are considered alongside their health, development and history. This is where diagnoses are made or ruled out, medical causes are checked, medication is considered if appropriate, and your child’s plan is decided.

4. Social work session
Our social worker will help you put the plan into action at home, at school and with any supports your child needs.

Why do I still need to see a paediatrician?

Each assessment looks at one part of your child. A psychologist may look at how your child learns, and a speech pathologist at how they understand and use language. These are important pieces, but they are only pieces.

Your paediatrician brings them together, checks whether anything medical may be playing a part, and works out what is really driving the difficulties you are seeing. Completing the assessments first does not replace this step. It means your appointment can be spent understanding your child, rather than deciding which assessments to arrange.

Who is invited?

Families are invited to the pathway after we review their Parent Profile Form. If you are not invited, you will keep your place on our waitlist for a standard paediatrician appointment.

Fees

Please note that appointments with Dr Rahman are privately billed and Medicare rebates are not available. Fees for the remaining parts of the pathway depend on the assessments your child needs. Our administration team will advise you of all applicable fees before any appointment is confirmed.
